Until 1985, the wreck of the Titanic was a
much sought after prize many considered equal to the quest for Holy Grail. Over 50 books
had been published covering the disaster from every conceivable angle. In the years
following the discovery of the wreck, an estimated 120 new books were published, generally
re-telling the same old story, albeit with a wealth of new technical data and photographs
acquired during the numerous return expeditions to the wreck site. |

On September 20 1911, the Titanic's older
sister Olympic, sailed from Southampton England. Within the hour a collision occurred,
allegedly compromising the liners structural integrity. Did the Olympic suffer from damage
that was so severe that she was not worth repairing ? Did the White Star Line switch the
Olympic with her near identical sister Titanic in a ruse to intentionally sink their mortally
damaged flagship on April 15th 1912 in order to cash in on the insurance policy ? |

The theory holds
that severe, crippling damage to the Olympic caused by her collision with the Hawke was
concealed because she was too costly to repair. The White Star Line was unable to recover
the cost of repairs from the Admiralty as the judgment of the court ordered that both
partys pay there own damages. With a considerable loss in revenue, compiled with an
insurance deductible of some $750,000, White Star switched the Olympic with her almost
identical sister Titanic. On the morning of April 15, the Olympic was deliberately sunk AS
the Titanic, for which insurance claims would be paid. |

Olympic & Titanic The Truth Behind The Conspiracy explores the switch theory,
addresses evidence and gives the final answer to the intriguing question of which ship
actually lies on the bottom of the North Atlantic today. Inaccurate stories are not new.
Immediately after the sinking, there were even reports of Capt. Smith being seen on the
streets of New York City. Some researchers, however, have used elements from the information
available on the Titanic to form "conspiracy theories". |

Which ship rests at
the bottom of the Nth Atlantic ? This book takes a critical look at the theory and goes
into amazing detail identifying the hundreds of minor subtle differences between the two
ships. While answering many long-standing questions, the wreck has presented us with
questions never considered prior to her discovery. Thus the switch theory, the most
publicized conspiracy, was born. Simply put, the switch theory suggests that the wreck
lying over 12,000 feet below the surface IS NOT the Titanic. |

This theory, however, does not address how the White Star Line could successfully and
secretly switch these two huge ships despite the presence of thousands of Harland & Wolff
employees and, as with most conspiracies, does not hold up well to technical scrutiny. There is no
question that the wreck can only be one of two ships; either it is the Titanic or her nearly
identical sister, the Olympic. Those agreeing that the wreck is the Titanic point to the fact that
the number 401 was sighted on the - |

thrust side of one of the wrecks propeller
blades. However the switch theorists believe that the propeller was merely borrowed from
the Titanic when the Olympic was being repaired after the Hawke collision.

There was only one opportunity to switch these ships. The
change-over would have called for absolute meticulous planning - and the circumstantial
evidence presented in this book of how it could, or was done, will absolutely bring the
reader up short. But was it witnessed by anyone ?

Over the course of time, theory and fact have a way of becoming
intertwined. It is the intent of this book to examine this switch theory and some of the
mysteries surrounding the Titanic and her sister, the Olympic. The ship today laying more
than 12,000 feet below the icy waters of the North Atlantic is nothing more than a
crumpled and dismembered steel hulk. Is the ship really Titanic ? |
